CMUK’in Around Perth – A Travel Shoe Review

I like to get to know a new city by walking. It’s the best way to find the most interesting places and feel the heart of the city you’re travelling in, in a way that you can’t when you rent a car or take transit. That’s why for me a really good pair of travel shoes is probably the best investment that I can make. So when I heard about CMUK shoes (pronounced SMOOK), shoes that are made specifically for travellers, I had to test them out to see if they would make the cut on my trip to Perth. I put my CMUK shoes to the test by doing these walks around Perth:

King’s Park and Botanic Gardens

King’s Park and Botanic Gardens easily tops the list as the most beautiful place to go for a walk in the city of Perth. Located on top of Mt Eliza, this walking path overlooks the city and river, giving walkers the best views of the skyline. I was glad to find that my CMUK shoes were comfortable to wear while walking on a variety of terrains, like the pristine hillside gardens to the walking paths above the forest tree tops.

Government House

One of the reasons I love waking around a city is because you accidentally stumble upon hidden gems like the Government House, the official residence of the Governor of Western Australia. The grounds are open to the public and I was able to walk around the gardens, which are an interesting contrast to the concrete jungle that surrounds the property. Luckily, CMUK shoes are not only practical but also stylish, so I was ready in case the Governor wanted to invite me over for dinner. 😉

Rottnest Island

Accessed by ferry, Rottnest Island was by far my favourite place to walk around. Known as one of the most beautiful islands in Australia (which is really saying something) I was most excited to walk around Rottnest Island to find the quokka, famously the happiest animal on earth. They are also the poopiest animal on earth, and after stepping in a whole lot of quokka poop I was glad that my shoes were machine washable and quick to dry.

So did CMUK shoes pass the test?

Absolutely! To be honest I was hesitant when I first received my CMUK shoes in the mail, as they don’t appear to have a whole lot of support and my feet have no tolerance for uncomfortable shoes. However, I found CMUK shoes to be extremely comfortable, even after long days of walking. Besides the comfort, my favourite features of CMUK shoes are that they are lightweight and fold up flat in your suitcase, are vegan and were originally designed in Australia!
