Happy Australia Day- Top Aussie Adventures

Happy Australia Day! I’ve now been in Australia for over a year and a half and in that time I’ve done and seen a lot, including visiting 5 out of the 8 Australian states and/or territories. So, to celebrate this amazing country, here is a list of my favourite sights/activities in the 5 states I’ve visited:

Northern Territory

Discovering Australian Wildlife- My biggest and most dangerous Australian adventures have all happened in the Northern Territory. In this state I visited the Outback and got beat up by a wild kangaroo and I went to Darwin and was centimeters away from hungry wild crocodiles.

Queensland

Feeding Wild Dolphins- Queensland is famous for it’s spectacular beaches, but I prefer the beach’s visitors. Hand feeding wild dolphins at Morton Island is a rare experience and definitely my favourite thing to do in Queensland.

New South Wales

Walking Around The Sydney Opera House- Although this is textbook tourist, my favourite moment in Sydney was walking around the Sydney Opera house and looking out onto the surrounding city. I was able to capture some interesting photos in between saying hi to the seal that lives on the stairs of the iconic building (not a bad place to live).

Victoria

Eating In Melbourne- I’m going to be honest, I didn’t know anything about Victoria or Melbourne before coming to Australia, and didn’t really have any desire to go there. However, in 9 months I’ve now been to Melbourne 3 times and I basically just go there to eat. Some of my favourite restaurants/cafes include: Gazi, Chin Chin (if you’ve read my previous post, fyi, I’ve forgiven them), Top Paddock, Hopetoun Tea Rooms and Bibelot. The coffee and food culture in this city is insane.

Tasmania

Boating To The Tasman Peninsula- My favourite experience in Tasmania was taking a boat ride that took us beneath deep sea cliffs as we explored waterfalls, rock formations, archways, a blowhole and deep sea caves. As we explored the Tasmanian nature, pods of dolphins surrounded our boat and jumped so close, I could have touched them, while playful wild seals proved they really are the puppies of the sea.

I’ve been lucky to do a lot of travelling this year, and it was nearly impossible to narrow down my favourite activity/sight in each state and/or territory. In the next six months I will be travelling to South Australia and Western Australia, so if you have any tips for me comment below.

Happy ‘Straya Day Mates! Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oi Oi Oi!

There are so many incredible restaurants in Melbourne but my favourite at the moment is Gazi. It’s the best Greek food you will ever have (including in Greece). Here is the website: http://www.gazirestaurant.com.au/
