Living abroad, it’s not un-common to notice cultural differences, but since moving to Australia I’ve encountered some signs that have stopped me in my tracks and reminded me that I really am living in a whole different country. Here are some of the weirdest Australian signs I’ve seen to date:
They don’t beat around the bush here.
A helpful sign above the only staircase back up the cliff.
I could not keep my eyes on the road after this one. Seriously the most distracting sign.
No comment.
Keep your babies close.
Just a typical sign in my neighbourhood. No big deal.
This looks like a fun beach.
Another fun beach.
Who wants to go swimming?
The struggle is real.
No one wears shoes here so I can see how this could be a problem.
Why is this sign even necessary…. I don’t want to know.
Ok this must be a big problem in Australia.
Australia, where even the ice cream shops are politically incorrect….. sigh.
Beware of… Uggs?

I too am afraid of Uggs. I had to save that dingo sign because I have an Australian cattle dog, which is part dingo. They are nothing but trouble. I’d hate to know what a full blooded dingo was like!

Great! I love signs like this. My favourite here in NZ is one that warns you about penguins crossing.

These are great! Are you near Port Douglas? I swear I recognise a couple of those stinger signs…
With regard to the toilet seat instructions, I was also baffled…until one day I saw flip flop marks on a seat!

Road tripping around Tasmania I saw a bunch of Tasmanian Devil signs on the roads (similar to that kangaroo one). Gotta love that Australian wildlife!

I have a road sign ‘Give way to Penguins’, which I photographed in Victor Harbor (South Australia) last year (my wife & I did a 4000 km road trip) – happy to send a copy, but don’t know how to on your blog. . . . .
